    ATHENA

Athena was the goddess of courage, law, wisdom and justice. Athena was regarded as the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens, from which she received her name.

Athena’s temples were usually located atop the fortified Acropolis in the central part of the city. The Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis is dedicated to her, along with numerous other temples and monuments.

A skilled battle and war planner and tactician, a warrior goddess, Athena was very wise and thoughtful, having logic and tactics where most other Gods did not and was believed to lead soldiers into battle. Her main festival in Athens was the Panathenaia, which was celebrated during midsummer and was the most important festival on the Athenian calendar.

In art, Athena is usually shown wearing a helmet and holding a spear.
