    HARMONIA

Harmonia (Armonia) was the Goddess of Harmony and Concord. She was the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite. From the union of these two opposing forces, the creative love (Venus) and the war and destruction (Mars), the absolute balance emerged, Harmonia.

Harmonia controled the peace and balance in all areas of life, from birth, marriage to progression and death. She presided over both marital harmony, soothing strife and discord as well as harmonious action of soldiers in war.

Late Greek and Roman writers sometimes portrayed her as harmony in a more abstract sense - the deity who presided over cosmic balance. The name Harmonia in Greek means ‘harmony’ and is the name given by Ancient Greeks to the Greek personification of the order and symmetry of the universe.

Harmonia’s symbol is number 8, the number formed by the two snakes in Hermes Caduceus, symbolizing opposing forces and duality, as well as the double strand of DNA.
